Chipping Norton Singers is a community choir in the truest sense of the word; open to all, friendly and fun, and very much part of the local community. The group is run by Chipping Norton Theatre, as part of their Take Part activities.

"I always look forward to Thursday nights and singing with Chipping Norton Singers. We laugh a lot, and sing some great songs. I come away feeling very positive about the world."

Cat teaches all the songs by ear, so there is no need to read music, and no auditions; the focus is on enjoying what we sing, and making the best sound that we can. Cat teaches a variety of warm up exercies and techniques for healthy singing, suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced singers.

“[I enjoy] getting together with others and singing... finding my voice – [I've] never sung before. Never cease to be amazed at what Cat achieves with us each week"

Chippy Singers perform regularly at Chipping Norton Theatre and Chippy Town Festival, and have sung at local venues such as Chastleton House, as well as further afield at the Ashmolean Museum and the Bodleian Library in Oxford. In 2017, Chippy Singers recorded their debut album, Green & Gold.

Yes! Whether you're a seasoned shower-singer, have performed for years, or have always wanted to sing but never thought you'd be good enough, there will be someone else like you in the choir. We've been singing together for a few years now, so it might feel a little strange when you come along to your first rehearsal, but we're a friendly bunch, and you'll soon fit right in. It's slightly easier for new members to slot in towards the beginning of term, as we will likely be starting out with some new material, and everyone will be in the same position of having to learn it from scratch.

All joining enquiries should be directed to the Box Office at Chipping Norton Theatre; you can sign up for a term or book a taster to try us out.

We meet on Thursday evenings in term time, in the Parish Rooms opposite St Mary's Church, Chipping Norton. Rehearsals start at 7.30pm, and go on until 9-9.15pm. We’re fairly relaxed so don’t worry if you’re going to be a little bit late, just join in when you can!

Our repertoire is quite varied; from pop and rock classics to folk and world music. We sing completely unaccompanied, building up layers of sound with the different voice parts to create a full arrangement. We've tackled songs such as David Bowie's 'Heroes', 80s pop classic 'Martha's Harbour', and the soulful and beautiful 'Wonderful World', as well as traditional folk songs and sea shanties, heart-warming spirituals, and a Zulu wedding song!

Cat arranges the majority of songs herself, and we also sing some of her original compositions.
